What did you learn about fasting growing up?
How much do you fast?
What does the bible say about fasting?
Did Jesus fast?
Ok, just trying to stir the pot of thoughts to see what kind of response the blog can get.
I’m asking about fasting because I recently picked up a new book by one of my favorite authors. But, first I wanted to see what our community understands or thinks about fasting. In terms of learning I think its great to start where people are and then move to a new place.
Please share.
growing up, ive learned from my mom that fasting is the most effective way to learn how to depend on God… as well as the quickest way lose the 3 pounds to fit into her favorite dress! nothing bad can come out of fasting, was her theory.

Thank you toolizzit2quit for sharing your comment.
I’ve heard many Korean Americans talk about the high value their parents placed on fasting.
Doesn’t seem like many people in this “generation” fast.

Hi! I’m in YNECM at the moment, and this upcoming generation is coming to grips with the importance of regular fasting and extended fasting in times of desperation. Truly, many in our college group are slowly beginning to understand the power of fasting and the rewards as well (not that we can earn anything from God, but that we can position ourselves to receive more of God’s grace).
Although this generation has lost many of the ancient ways, I feel like there is a yearning and a hunger in each and every one of our hearts, yet many of us do not understand or have never heard testimonies of fasting, supernatural healing, miracles, and wonders. But when one takes a step out in faith and begins to share testimonies, it will erupt an awakening!
I hope YNCC will continue to emphasize and encourage fasting, prophesying, praying, giving, and ultimately striving to live holy!!!

The book that sparked this post was FASTING by Scot McKnight. I have not fasted that much in my life. But, this book has inspired me to fast during this Lent season.
He offers a definition of fasting that provokes my thinking.
FASTING is the natural, inevitable response of a person to a grievous sacred moment in life.
Lets think about this and I’ll post on Fasting soon. Thanks for keeping the conversation going.
