Bible in One Year Passages:

Journal Entry

Scripture

But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” (Mark 5:36)

Observation

When we read the passage above, we can't help but to think of Hebrews 11:1 that says: " Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." We can all imagine what was going on in the mind and heart of the ruler, when the news of the death of his daughter was brought to his attention. We can imagine him overwhelmed with trouble, with his spirit down, and even angry at the crowd for delaying Jesus arrival at his home and at Jesus for "wasting" his time with others when his daughter's situation was more urgent. However, none of that is implied in the Bible,...all we know is that he was by Jesus side as they went on to where the daughter was to do what He came to do, what He had promised the ruler He would do. It was faith, not fear that prevailed ... Faith not on circunstances, but on the promises of God. Faith not of himself, but a gift of God. Faith ... by grace alone.

Application

When trials and tribulations comes my way, though it is my right to have fear and let doubts overcome me, I shall instead ... only believe. While I might not know why, nor how of why things happen in my life, I know Whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to accomplish much more than I could ever imagine. Faith not fear, provides comfort under my trials. I am called to have confidence and a dependence upon Him that He will do what is for the best.

Prayer

Dear God,

Only you know all my sorrows, trials, and despairs. Only you know the difficulties I face daily in my life. May I entrust you all the days of my life for it is when I trust you the most, that I find joy at the end of the road. Help me overcome my resistance to change, my desire to take matters into my own hands, and instead help me to just obey... to only believe in You. Thank you for giving me this gift of faith, thank you for loving me unconditionally. May I sing songs of deliverance and praises for Your faithfulness brings hope to my life and fill me with abundance joy and peace.

In His grace alone,

--CP
