Bible in One Year Passages:
Mark 7:14-23, 1 Corinthians 12:14-31, Judges 16
9 You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them.
In today’s verses, the author is visually traveling from heaven to earth. In verses 5-8, he claims that the heaven is declaring God’s wonders and in verses 9-14, the author is talking about the earthly events which are proclaiming who God is. One cannot read verse 9 without reminiscing about how Jesus calming the storm.
I can almost visually imagine this author standing somewhere, where he can visually see the heaven, ocean, mountains, and the cities. Everywhere he looks; it is proclaiming God’s awesomeness. I remember back in my old church, we used to have a special Easter Sunday program. Every department had a part in this program, both young and old. Each department brought their own snacks for the weekend practices. Of course, adults had far better snack choices than the children. So some of the children would stop by and take some snacks from the adult practice room which no one has minded. There were two types of children though. If the children’s parents were in the practice, then the children would boldly come up to the snack area and take some snacks. But if the children did not see their parents, they were extremely reluctant to take some snacks. Knowing that my father is everywhere, gives me a confidence as I face the world.
Dear omnipresent Lord, what a comfort it is to know that you are everywhere and you will always watch over your people. Help me to always find comfort and assurance through your presence. Even as my older daughter will leave our nest and be on her own this fall, I am comforted by the fact that the God who is present here will be present with my daughter also.
