Bible in One Year Passages:
35 “Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, 36 and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks.
Here, Jesus points out two important qualities of true servant. One is the attentiveness to God and His will. And the other is readiness to act upon God's prompting. In the selected passage from today's text we see that the servant God wants us to be is one who is tuned into God so that he hears the knock at the door. Also, the servant opens the door at once without delay or hesitation. I, unlike the servant described in this passage, often don't hear the knock at the "door" because I am often not tuned into God. Also, even when I recognize the knock (prompting of God in my heart through the Spirit) at the door, I quite often hesitate to carry out what I know to be God's will. All that is to say that I have a long way to go in catching up to be a servant God wants me to be.
I will make every effort to tune out the unnecessary noise in my life in order to hear God more clearly. I will also act without delay upon God's prompting.
Lord, I thank you for your patience in teaching and molding me all these years. On this day, I pray that your Spirit would help me to better tuen into you and promptly obey your will. It is in Christ name I pray. Amen.
