Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 14:15-24, 1 Timothy 6:1-10, Nehemiah 1-2
7:1 My son, keep my words
and treasure up my commandments with you;
2 keep my commandments and live;
keep my teaching as the apple of your eye;
3 bind them on your fingers;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
and call insight your intimate friend,
5 to keep you from the forbidden [1] woman,
from the adulteress [2] with her smooth words.
Solomon is once again giving warning against adultery for the young men and to combat it with word of God. He is encouraging them to not only read the word of God but also write them on the tablet of their hearts. If not, there could be dire consequences. The particular young man in the passage goes near the corner where the adulterous woman lives. Then quickly he gets enticed to her bed and ultimately to his own destruction. He lacked wisdom to avoid certain places, times and people. When it comes to temptation, it is wiser to run away than to fight it.
I once heard men are prone to sexual sin where as women are to gossips. Whatever the temptation may be, I have to identify the areas of my weaknesses and not place myself in situations where I can easily fall into temptation. The more I fill up my mind with God’s word, the better I will be able to identify the temptation and not fall into sin.
Lord God, thank you for teaching me your words and for your wisdom. How wonderful it would be if your very words were written on the tablets of my heart! If there is any area in my life that is not right with you, please help me identify and lead me in the way everlasting. In His Name, Amen
