Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 16:1-9, 2 Timothy 1:8-18, Nehemiah 6
13 The foolish woman is clamorous; She is simple, and knoweth nothing.
14 And she sitteth at the door of her house, On a seat in the high places of the city,
15 To call to them that pass by, Who go right on their ways:
16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither; And as for him that is void of understanding, she saith to him,
17 Stolen waters are sweet, And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; That her guests are in the depths of Sheol.
In the final verse (13-16) of the Proverbs 9 the writer is warning us through symbolism of a seductress how we must guard ourselves to the invitation of folly or sin. The seductress can represent anything that causes us to follow the path of the flesh that is undiscline and that is void of knowledge and truth of the Father. The women is calling that pass by her searching for who is simple and knows nothing---void of discipline and knowledge.
The Temptress is looking for those who are simple and knows nothing---those who seek easy pleasure and has no desire for knowledge and discipline. Following Christ requires the desire to know God and his way which require discipline in reading his word and abiding in his truth. I can imagine the temptress like Satan sitting on the highest vantage point of the city looking for victims that are looking for easy pleasures of this world with no thought or consequence.
Lord keep me on the right path. Lord guard me with the knowledge that you are the Truth and the only truth to this life. Help me to recognize the worldly temptation that can easily grab me and seeking the simple and undisciplined way of living. Lord I chose your way that keeps me from death to the eternal life. Amen
