Bible in One Year Passages:
51Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division...53They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law." (Luke 12:51, 53)
Jesus makes the shocking statement that the decision to follow him will be divisive and will challenge loyalties because not everyone will make the same decision about Jesus. Even family members will stand on opposite sides of the divide.
My decision to follow Jesus will not make everyone happy and will not lead to everyone's liking. It will not be appreciated or accepted by all. But, the love of God compels me to put Jesus first in my life. If I am a true disciple, then I will love God above all else and be willing to forsake all for Jesus Christ.
Today, I will be mindful to put Jesus first in all things and to following him without compromise whatever the cost.
Father, please give me the courage to fully follow Jesus without compromise and the wisdom to know how to deal lovingly with those who cannot accept my decision, my passion, and my discipleship. In Jesus' name. Amen.
