Bible in One Year Passages:
22When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." 23 But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.
We learn the ruler kept all the commandments: Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother since he was boy. He is a good ruler. But Jesus still saids the ruler lacks. Jesus tells him to sell everything, give to the poor, and leave to follow him. Jesus wants the ruler to not trust his wealth, position, power, status, and possessions but to trust him. Does Jesus wants all of us to do this? Yes. It does not mean that we should sell our house, cars, possession and give it to the poor today. But it does mean Jesus wants us to place him first before anything else. We should rid ourselves of anything that will hinder us from doing that. There is no backup plan with Jesus. He is the only plan.
I need to examine my life and see where I have back up plans. What am I holding on to that hinders me from completely trusting in our Lord? Then take a steps to releasing so that I may experience God.
Father God, continue to show and peel away things that keeps me from trusting and following you completely. Thank you that we do not need to depend on anything else but you. That there is no need for plan B. You are truly all I need. Amen
