Scripture

yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding,
if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures,
then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

Observation

In our compartmentalized world, we seek an easy faith with few requirements. Isn't it good enough that I attend church services, participate in bible studies? But the seeking and the genuine desire must be a consuming thing. "Call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding." Passive listening with no intent to learn much less apply what I hear is far from the advice given here. And yet, that is what I naturally slide toward. "Seek it like sliver and search for it as for hidden treasures." There really is a difference when we do something with a goal and purpose in mind versus mindlessly engaging in activities. The positive outcome is that what we seek, the fear of the Lord, true wisdom, righteousness (not self-righteousness), knowledge will be granted. And in so doing, there will be such a filling that the negatives will find no foothold.

Application

Yesterday, I heard that Rev. Ha, the founder of the Onnuri Church in Korea passed away. CGNTV was showing some tributary programs highlighting his life. I think that he had this deep seeking as a core in his life. I think that he must have had a burning desire to have God's wisdom and seek His guidance for his life. There is a visible outcome, a measurable result. I was astounded to see the delightful innovation and the sheer volume of work that was accomplished because of God's favor on this man's life. Onnuri is known as a very big and very lively church but the footprint is much larger than I had thought, beyond the very large membership. A church for Korean entertainers. More than a thousand missionaries sent out and cared for. Church planting all over the place. And generations of young people motivated and trained to lives of dedicated service. I am no pastor but this sort of fruitful life is very appealing to me and it must start today. Seek it like a hidden treasure.

Prayer

There is no greater treasure than knowing you, O God.
