Scripture

5"Behold, God is mighty, and does not despise any; he is mighty in strength of understanding. (Job 36:5)

Observation

In these verses, Elihu is declaring of how God will deal with the righteous and those who are wicked. God will give an opportunity to heed the word of God and to repent. If confession is made and the change has occurred, God will bless them, but curse if not. This sayings are made to show that God is "mighty", and "mighty in strength of understanding". Extreme examples of results are used to illustrate the generosity or severity from God depending on what our responses will be.

Application

I know that God is "mighty" and will reward those who follow him and "punish" those who do not listen to Him. We are often told and often rely upon the fact that God is "Merciful" and "Gracious" in that God will "withhold" the punishment we deserve and "give" blessings even though we may not deserve it out of His "love for us". While this is true, but today's verse reminds me and urges me to do my best to live according to God's will which God will give "blessings" rather than punishment or cursing.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for the word today which reminds me to know that you are not only "loving", "merciful", "gracious", and "forgiving", yet "righteous", "just", and "mighty" to require of us to live "righteous" living. Grant me better understanding of you and open my ears to "listen" and obey. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen
