Scripture

v.10 And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Observation

This last section of Job is an epilogue detailing God’s restoration of Job’s fortune and family. This comes after Job hears God speak, resulting in repentance and obedience to His call to intercede for his friends. And God poured his blessings on Job, doubling what he had before. The blessings that were bestowed upon Job were a physical reflection of the abundant and overflowing spiritual blessings Job experienced with God through his repentance and obedience.

Application

After God responds to Job, he ends up despising himself and repenting. He became so empty, that when he was asked to pray for the friends, who were rebuking and condemning him, he responds with complete obedience. That type of obedience comes from a spiritual intimacy with God and a repentant heart. And there are tremendous blessings associated with that heart. God is calling me to know Him more. And have a heart of surrender.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, in 2012, I pray that I may pursue a more intimate relationship with you through your word, and experience the blessings associated with surrendering my life to you. In Jesus name, Amen.
