Bible in One Year Passages:
Matthew 13:24-43, Acts 20:1-12, Exodus 21-22
Psalm 31:5 "Into thy hand I commit my spirit; thou hast redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God."
David may have not realized that Jesus would say this famous saying " Into thy hand I commit my spirit" as in Luke 23:46 when he was praying to God. Yet, David understood that only way to survive in all his dangerous circumstance was to let his spirit be rendered to God almighty. He somehow understood that God has already redeemed him, even before he knew it, and the only thing for him to do was to totally surrender to God as a baby would do to his mom. He has shown his complete dependency on God as he realized God has already saved him. Amongst his joy of freedom, David does not fail to praise God for His faithfulness.
Ever since he was a shepherd boy, he had an assurance of being loved and cared for by God. He had such an unchangeable trust in God that shaped his life and action. I think God granted David a heart of Jesus, and led him to utter such a testimony. How wonderful and fascinating this is! David must have experienced an elation of epiphany by expressing his faith to God. How often do I boldly say "Into thy hand I commit my spirit"? Can this be my prayer? I certainly hope so.
Lord, thank you for being my rock and my fortress. I take refuge in you and you alone. Although I do not know what tomorrow may bring, I trust you and praise you Lord, for you are faithful and kind. You have sustained my life through many inexplicable and hopeless situations. Lord, thank you for being there for me. I cling to you, surrender to you, my savior and redeemer. Help me also to boldly proclaim "Into thy hand I commit my spirit". In your precious name Jesus, I pray. Amen
