Journal Entry

Scripture

1Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me;
fight against those who fight against me!
2Take hold of shield and buckler
and rise for my help!
3Draw the spear and javelin
against my pursuers!
Say to my soul,
"I am your salvation!"

Observation

David was relentlessly pursued by his enemies for many years and his life was oftentimes in danger. It is evident from the passage that it was one of those intense moments when he felt as if there was no more strength left to defend himself against or run way from the enemies. However, David knew exactly what he needed to do. David experienced and knew that was precisely when he needed to cry out to the Lord for protection. It was not that he didn't know or believe God was going to be there or defend for him. Rather, David as a finite being just like one of us just wanted to be reassured by God that He would save him.

Application

As re-filling of the Holy Spirit is continually needed for the renewal of the believers, re-assuring of God's presence and protection is also a must for his people to be able to put total trust in Him. How do we get re-assured? By pleading with God whenever we need it. Pleading with God is possible when we pause and converse with Him. I ask the Holy Spirit to encourage and challenge me to put my daily priorities straight. Yes. I ought to give my daily priority to the meditating and praying.

Prayer

Father, I know you are always there for me. However, my spirit that is weak and vulnerable yearns to be touched by your presence over and over, especially in times of trouble and trials. Would you please reassure my soul of your peace and protection today so that I may live this day victoriously for your delight? In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
