Bible in One Year Passages:
Matthew 17:1-13, Acts 25:1-12, Exodus 39-40
7 How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. 9For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light. (Ps 36:7-9)
This psalm praises and rejoices in the fact that the People of God has hope even in the midst of difficulties and hardship. There are 2 kinds of people that are mentioned in this chapter. The Wicked and the Children of God. Wicked are described as those WITHOUT FEAR OF GOD. The wicked do things that are pleasing to their own eyes and minds, including evil things. However, the Children of God take refuge in God and enjoy the benefits of being in the House of God. I cannot escape the fact that Wicked (those who do not fear God) will not last, but be thrust down while the Children of God will be protected and sheltered at the end. One is temporal (wicked) and the other eternal (children of God).
Too often, we see evil flourishing and being promoted as norm and hipped thing to do. At the same time, decent and conservative way of life is deemed as "old fashion" and "not relevant" even "looked down upon". In times of trouble and difficulties, this psalm reminds me to take my eyes off of my surroundings and look up to see where God is and where we are heading. God is steadfast and loving, even when we don't see it, feel it, and know it. HE IS. I shutter to think what it would be like to live without God's wings protecting me and that I am His Children.
Thank you God for being my Father. Thank you God for choosing me to be your child, being there always and loving me even when I don't deserve it and/or when I don't realize it. Help me to fix my eyes on your steadfastness, goodness, love, and grace. It is good to be under your wings. Praise and worship you today. In Jesus' name. Amen
