Bible in One Year Passages:
Matthew 18:15-35, Acts 26:19-32, Leviticus 8-10
13 But I am like a deaf man; I do not hear, like a mute man who does not open his mouth.
14 I have become like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no rebukes.
David hears people lying about him and I think this has been eating him up inside. Finally, he decides that the best action he can take is by not listening to people’s lie. By not listening to those lies, he freed himself from defending himself. David is able to do this because of his faith in the Lord. He knows that God will eventually even things out and make things right.
As pastor Michael’s sermon mentioned, sometimes listening to lies is just as bad as telling them and we should avoid listening to them, if this would not edify others. Moreover, even if it is the truth, there are times when not listening is more edifying, as David is alluding to. As Shakespearean once said, "The better part of valor is discretion, in the which better part I have saved my life."
Dear Lord, grant me strength today neither to listen nor to talk, if I ever fall into a similar situation as David.
Grant me faith today so that I know that you will make everything right without me defending myself.
Grant me wisdom today so that I may always listen and say things which will edify you and the church.
