Bible in One Year Passages:
"So the last will be first, and the first last."
In this parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard: Jesus teaches us that laborers who agree to work in the vineyard at different times throughout the day ultimately receive the same reward as those who began the work earlier. There is obvious grumbling amongst those who labored for longer periods during the day citing the inherent unfairness of the situation. As the owner & creator of all things, God ultimately has the divine sovereign right to do as He pleases. On this day, He chooses to be gracious & generous to those who have not labored for as long in the vineyard. As humans we frequently fall into the trap of comparing our gifts/blessings/rewards with one another - when in fact we should focus on examining our sinful lives through God's eyes & submit ourselves to Him in humble repentance. At the end of the day, I believe it is His desire for everyone (no matter how late it is) to work in the vineyard & accept the gift of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ.
Having been reminded of the Lord's sovereignty, generosity, & graciousness I will strive to continue to make choices in my life that serve to honor Him. I will try to be more humble & content & joyful in all circumstances of life.
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for being the sovereign Lord & master of my life. Please forgive me for the many times I have been inconsistent with my quiet time with you & for my weakness in giving into my sinful nature. Thank you for granting me with the Gift above all gifts - i.e. eternal salvation through your Son. Please help me to be a better steward of the resources in which you have entrusted me with. Help me to be a stronger encouragement to others who have not yet accepted your invitation to work in your Vineyard. In Jesus Name....Amen.
