Bible in One Year Passages:
Matthew 12:17-21
17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:
18 “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,
my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased.
I will put my Spirit upon him,
and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.
19 He will not quarrel or cry aloud,
nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets;
20 a bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not quench,
until he brings justice to victory;
21 and in his name the Gentiles will hope.”
Our Lord Jesus was described by the prophet Isaiah as someone who reaches out to the Gentiles, the rejected and outcast. He brought them hope and justice. It was done in quiet and personal ways and in gentle ways.
As shown by example of Jesus, and as a follower of Jesus, I need to make more conscientious effort to reach out to those who are neglected and rejected. Some of these include people of my immediate surrounding whom I do not have positive attractions for, and thus am making a personal neglect and rejection, whether visibly or only in thoughts. Others include strangers I come across who have been rejected by the society, and everyoneelse in between.
Lord, forgive me for neglecting and rejecting those around me, whether done visibly or only in thoughts. Help me to embrace and love all people, just as Jesus has shown. I also pray that I may make conscientious effort to reach out to those neglected by the society. I want to imitate Jesus and follow his examples. I pray that Holy Spriit will provide constant reminder for me to be aware and give me the courage to go beyond thoughts and feelings, and take actions. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray.
