Bible in One Year Passages:
Matthew 4:18-25, Psalm 8, Genesis 14-15
3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? 4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” 5 When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it. (ESV)
Today’s passage gives us a serious reminder that we cannot fool God. At first glance, we might say how dumb this couple was thinking that they could get away with such deception in front of God who is all knowing and powerful, but we oftentimes make the same mistakes when we only act holy on the outside but our hearts are not genuine on the inside. We fool ourselves thinking that God cannot see through our hearts. God honors honesty and sincerity of our hearts.
I will be more genuine in my worship and service to God. Rather than sometimes just going through the motions of acting sincere in my spiritual walk, I will take the warning from today’s lesson seriously and offer my wholehearted devotion and commitment in my walk with Him.
Heavenly Father, thank you for convicting my heart with your truth today. Please help me to be fully devoted to you and not waver or become lackadaisical. May your Holy Spirit continue to remind me of this truth every day so that I can truly enjoy your peace and joy that can only come from having an intimate relationship with you. In Jesus’ name, Amen
