Bible in One Year Passages:
1. And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.
Jesus sent out his disciples by giving them power and authority that only comes through His Name. He tells them to offer with one hand, the good news of kingdom of God and to bring healing with the other hand. This exemplifies God who meets both our spiritual and physical needs. Jesus often told about the kingdom of God through parables and stories and the disciples probably did the same as they traveled throughout the villages. Jesus was very compassionate when he saw many suffering from diseases or demon possessions and brought healing to their soul and body. The disciples were able to bring similar healing like Jesus.
Jesus also told them not to take anything on a trip but to place complete dependence on God alone. He instructed them to stay at one house while in town and if that town doesn’t receive the gospel well, then they can move on to the next town. As long as we share the good news as best as we can, we are not to be discouraged by negative responses from people. We should rejoice in the fact that we were able to bring good news of Jesus and we have to trust that God will bring fruits in His time.
I can apply this principle whenever I go on short term mission trips but also in my daily life when I share the gospel with non Christians. Some of my co workers and clients I come across are non Christians. I feel that if I continue to develop my relationship with them then they will want to know more about Jesus and invite Him into their hearts. Through consistent prayer life and quality time with them, I hope to communicate genuine care for them and the love of Jesus Christ.
Lord God, please forgive me for forgetting about your power and authority you have granted me. Thank you for so many experiences where I personally see how powerful and awesome you are. Please empower us with your spirit and power to carry out your ministry.
