Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 10:38-42, 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28, 2 Chronicles 13-14
9 I will sing a new song to you, my God; on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you,
10 to the One who gives victory to kings, who delivers his servant David. From the deadly sword
11 deliver me; rescue me from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful.
12 Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace.
13 Our barns will be filled with every kind of provision. Our sheep will increase by thousands,
by tens of thousands in our fields;
14 our oxen will draw heavy loads. There will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets.
Today’s verses struck a chord with me as it reminded me about the sacrifices which our first generation Korean Christians has made, mainly for the future generations. It appears that the prayers of verses 9-11 are made, mainly for the benefit of the future generation. They wanted to pave the smooth road for the next heirs. What a wonderful show of love these verses are showing toward the next generation!
I just came back from a Korean trip and several people in Korea were surprised to find out that I am still working at my tender age of 21 (actually I am a little bit older than that). In Korea, people who are working in the IT field are forced to retire at the latest by the age of 45. This kind of made me realize that although I feel that I still have many years to go, it perhaps is not too early to think about the next phase of my life. It also kind of made me think of how I should approach my faith walk. When a decision is made, I have decided to be more intentional in considering how this decision would shape the future generation, rather than solely concentrating on today and right now.
Dear Lord, through today’s message, I am once again become thankful about the sacrifices which our first generation Korean Americans has made for the betterment of the future generation. Won’t you grant me the same love and same heart so that in my own small way, I too can become a helper of the future generation Christians. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
