Bible in One Year Passages:
4 I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. 5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
In this passage, Jesus spoke about not fearing those who kill but fearing the One who can cast those who kill into hell. Disciples may be fearing for their life from the authority or vicious people who want to to see them kiilled for following Jesus. After all, when Jesus spoke to the crowds, he referred to himself as the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. His radical message would have gotten the attention of many, including Pharasees and others authories. And Jesus continued to comfort his disciples by explaining how God cares for even the sparrows that hardly have value. God cares about us so much so that He even knows the number of our hair. We are so valued that He will not leave us to be harmed by our enemies.
Long ago, a friend of mine always said, he fears no one because God is with Him. I believed him but I could not say the samething for myself then. I have been reminded today that God cares for me and values my life and I should not fear life circumstances. Knowing that God is my strength and ultimate authority, I should boldly live out my life today , tomorrow and all of my days.
Lord, you are my strength and rock of my salvation. No matter what kind of life circumstances I am in, may I truly be confident in knowing that You are with me. Thank you that you care for me so much so that You will not leave me to be harmed by my enemies. Holy Spirit, grant me the boldness to proclaim His name throughout the day. In Jesus name, Amen
