Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 8:1-15, Colossians 2:6-15, 1 Chronicles 9-10
Psalm 132:3-5 "I will not enter my house or get into my bed, I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob."
This is David's vow. His passion for finding a dwelling place for God is expressed in a hyperbole. It shows how deeply he is committed to building a temple for God and to have his people worship him there.
David's commitment challenges me. Have I ever been so committed to anything? The love I have for my children comes closest to such commitment. If my children are hurting, I would do anything and gladly change places with them to restore them. My love for God has been most tangible when I have taken a part in helping others to know Christ or be strengthend in their faith. It has been most tangible through chruch, YNCC. I can see two applications for me today.
First is committing to build up YNCC. God has blessed Young Nak with two churches - Korean and English. YNCC has essentially been time-sharing from Young Nak. It is like having a tent for God's dwelling place. I think God has great plans for us to reach our community and the next generation. We can purchase a portion of the church and be accountable for it. I also want to honor God's temple by keeping it clean and taking care of it.
Second is committing to be a temple of God. It says in 1 Cor:19, "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?" God wants me to die to my sinful nature and honor him with my body as a living sacrifice. He has chosen to live inside of me and I am his temple. I will avoid places and situations that will tempt me to sin. I will do daily devotions before I get into my bed or give myself to sleep.
Father, I give you all the honor and praise. I ask that your will to be done in my life and in our church. Help me not to be complacent because my life is comfortable. I want to honor your through my life.
