Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 3:1-6, Ephesians 5:15-21, 1 Kings 13-14
81My soul longs for your salvation;
I hope in your word.
82My eyes long for your promise;
I ask, "When will you comfort me?"
They have almost made an end of me on earth,
but I have not forsaken your precepts.
88In your steadfast love give me life,
that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth.
The Psalmist longs for God’s salvation and for God’s promises. He said he has become like the wineskin in the smoke. I looked up wineskin in the smoke and it says the wineskin was used to absorb smoke of fire in the home sort of like chimney. After its function, it becomes hard and shriveled and afterwards it turns black and useless. Even in such state, he will not forget God’s Word.
In comparison to the Psalmist, I lack in my longing and passion for His Word. In general, I sense lack of God’s love and compassion for people in me. I do have affection for some like friends and family but nothing like what Jesus who felt compassion when he saw people. This is alarming as I wonder what will make my heart more like Him. Perhaps I need to be intentional to place myself among people that I will love and pray He will change my heart. Then perhaps I too will long for his salvation and God’s word that I may live a real life.
Lord God, I lack so much of longing and passion for your word compared to the Psalmists. At the moment, my heart might look like that wineskin. Please break my heart and change my heart so it will beat more like yours. I think only you can give me that kind of heart. Until then, please help me to be faithful in prayer and in action. I will read your Word, cherish them and try to obey even though my heart is not there yet. In His Name, Amen.
