Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 4:1-13, Ephesians 6:10-24, 1 Kings 19
v. 105: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Today's verse is a great reminder to the power of God's Word. Verse 105 tells us that God's Word is the lamp unto my feet and light to my path. The Psalmist could have finished the verse by only stating "Your word is a lamp to my feet." This first half of v. 105 is already a statement affirming the role of God's greatness in our life. For a lamp unto my feet sets a solid ground for my life. God is the solid foundation. And yet, in the 2nd half of the verse, the Psalmist further affirms this truth by assuring us that it lights our path. The lamp serves a function. The lamp is not only a source that brings light, but it lights a path. The light that comes from the lamp functions as a guide. For sometimes our path is not so right, all the more we need God's guidance in finding the paths in life. And God's Word is the ultimate key; a guidance in our time of need. Verse 105 sets the foundation for vv. 106 - 112 as the Psalmist makes a confession and a promise unto God.
I am reminded today that lamp serves a function. It guides my path. It not just brightens up a room, but it helps me by taking me from point A to point B. I pray that God's Word will continue to be that guidance in my life. I must rely and trust in the power of God's Word to be my guide in everything I say and do.
God, thank you again for this valuable reminder. Your Word is so powerful. I am challenged by the desperate cry of the Psalmist as he laid out his confession unto You. God, be my lamp and may Your Word be the path to my life.
