Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 4:22-30, Philippians 1:12-20, 1 Kings 22
125 I am your servant; give me understanding, that I may know your testimonies!
As God's servant, David is earnestly seeking "understanding", so that he may know and do the will of God, all the while his oppressors are pressing about him. He desires "understanding", instead of crying out "Why!?!?", which would be a more natural course of action especially when he's "done what is just and right". (v. 121) How can God not love him so much!
Having attended church and bible studies since my childhood, it was easy for me to have assumed that I have a fairly good understanding of what the Bible is teaching. And it's been only a few years ago that I have begun to meditate on His Word in its entirety...to gain a better understanding of Him whom I believe, follow and serve.
As I meditate over and over, even over the same passages I gain a new/renewed insight into His teaching and statutes, and thus realized that I just don't know enough about Him whom I serve...the more I meditate, the more I become aware that I know less... As David sought "understanding", thus I seek wisdom and understanding, so that His teachings and statutes shall be of an organic nature that grows in me and becomes part of me.
Thank you, Lord, for reminding me that I must continue to seek "understanding" as I meditate on Your Word and that "understanding" and meditating must go hand in hand, even through any given circumstance that may cause me to cry out, "Why!?".
In, Your precious Son, Jesus' name. Amen...
