Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 5:1-11, Philippians 2:5-11, 2 Kings 5-6
With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord! I will keep your statutes. I call to you; save me, that I may observe your testimonies. (Psalm 119: 145-146)
David is lifting up prayers to plead and ask for God's intervention to save him from his enemies who are against him. Just by reading the passage, it initially gave the impression that David is seeking relief from the immediate situation promising that he will seek God, meditate on God's word in exchange of God saving him. Also, it looked as though David was neglecting God and His word, but due to his dire situation, David is seeking out for God's help. However, I know that David is man after God's heart. Knowing that David's devoted life of dwelling and meditating on God's Word, my perspective of his prayer changed. David was simply stating the fact that God should save him so that David can continue to seek God, dwell in God's Word and meditate on His Word. David was not promising to do something that he hasn't been doing, but asking to save him because he wants to continue what he has been doing.
My perspective of David's prayer changed from "selfish" prayer of "save me and I will ......." to "devoted" prayer of "save me so that I can continue to ....."
It is easy to find myself praying seeking God's help promising that I will do better. However, David's prayer and his life challenged me to maintain and do daily devotions faithfully.
Lord, help me to dwell, meditate in your Word daily and faithfully so that I can pray and ask for your divine intervention in my life so that I CAN CONTINUE to live and dwell in your WORD. Help me to be faithful in small things everything. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen
