Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 5:17-26, Philippians 2:19-30, 2 Kings 9-10
162I rejoice at your word
like one who finds great spoil.
The author is praising God's laws and how righteous and holy they are. He likens the rejoicing in law God's word to finding treasure.
This particular section stands out to me as a reminder of what we have in God's word. Many times look upon the Bible as more of a burdensome textbook, requiring massive amounts of study in order to squeeze out every last bit of information. However, I can honestly say that a majority of the time, reading through the Bible with an open and willing heart is akin to finding treasure as the Psalmist says. God's wisdom is present throughout and there are two things that result from this. Firstly, wisdom to deal with whatever issues one may be facing. God speaks and advises us through the commandments given to us in the Bible. Secondly, the mere fact that we glean this information by poring over and consuming His word gives immense satisfaction. We meditate and pray and we find wisdom in what we read and hear. We observe and obey and we find satisfaction in our lives as our outlook on our situations is changed.
Father, help me to seek out your treasures in your Word. May I continue to search with diligence for your wisdom and may I be continually amazed at the way you affect our lives as a result.
