Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 5:33-39, Philippians 3:8-11, 2 Kings 13-14
1 In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me.
2 Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.
3 What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue?
4 A warrior’s sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree!
5 Woe to me, that I sojourn in(E) Meshech, that I dwell among(F) the tents of(G) Kedar!
6 Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace.
7 I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war!
In this short chapter, the song of Ascent, we see the psalmist reaching out to God about the hostility around by those deceitful and desiring war. We feel the struggle and hardship that the psalmist describes for living within the surround of the enemy who seek war and not peace.
It seems that it is often that we too are surrounded by a very similar environment as the passage today where no matter how much we want or try to have peace with others around us, they do not want that. In situation such as these, it feels that there's a limit to what I can do, and thus can only cry out to God and leave it at His feet for Him to take care of our enemies.
Lord, thank you for being our God and help us to not be discouraged by our enemies but rather seek victory through You. In Jesus Name, I pray.
