Bible in One Year Passages:

Journal Entry

Scripture

25Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, 28he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, 29"Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; 30for my eyes have seen your salvation 31 that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel."

36And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, 37and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. 38And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Observation

Today’s passage presents a story of two special individuals who were able to immediately recognize and experience the blessing of receiving baby Jesus as the true Messiah through a special insight given to them by the Holy Spirit as a result of their steadfast devotion to God.

Application

I must be diligent in my daily devotional, worship and prayer so that I can live a life that is truly led by the Holy Spirit and not by my own selfish desires and circumstances. Only then, I can fully experience the freedom and blessings that God has in store for me.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for encouraging me through today’s devotional that I need to stay in Your Word and be diligent in my prayer life. May I be led by the Holy Spirit and make Godly choices in all my actions and words so that I can be an effective witness for Christ to the people that are around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
