Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 2:22-40, Ephesians 4:25-32, 1 Kings 11
68 You are good and do good;
teach me your statutes.
71 It is good for me that I was afflicted,
that I might learn your statutes.
72 The law of your mouth is better to me
than thousands of gold and silver pieces. (ESV)
This passage emphasizes the goodness of God’s character and the values of His commandments and His laws. Even in my affliction, God is good because He uses such situation to teach me His knowledge and truth.
Through reading of Psalm 119, God has really convicted my heart to repent and confess how important it is to keep His Word in me at all times. Without always having His Word in my heart, it’s impossible to experience the joy and peace that He promises. My attitude and actions toward others are often dictated by my own selfish thoughts and desires rather than being motivated and guided by God’s love and grace. Even after a QT in the morning, I often go through the day not remembering and reminding myself of what I meditated on that morning, but I get caught up so much in busyness and stress of work and therefore, not able to live out my faith and enjoy the peace He promises. I will practice pausing to remember His lessons throughout the day. Also, as Verse 72 says, I will treat the Word of God more precious than thousands of gold and silver and make it a priority to spend time in His Word over extra sleep or watching TV.
Heavenly Father, Thank you for convicting my heart to spend more time in your Word. I confess that I have taken your commandments lightly and have not made it a priority in my life. Please cause me to develop more hunger and desire to study and meditate in your Word. Please encourage me to always follow your commandments and choose to do good over my fleshly desire. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
