Bible in One Year Passages:
Matthew 26:17-25, Romans 9:19-33, Numbers 35-36
1For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
2 He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken….
10Put no trust in extortion;
(S) set no vain hopes on robbery;
(T) if riches increase, set not your heart on them.
11(U) Once God has spoken;
(V) twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
12and that to you, O Lord,(W) belongs steadfast love.
For you will(X) render to a man
according to his work.
In this psalm by David, he reminds us that we, like him, should slow down a bit to truly hear the Lord’s voice. David is quick to criticize the hypocrites who are more than willing to take pleasure in their own self-created falsehoods; verse 4 concludes by indicating that these people bless you with their mouths while cursing you under their own breath. He urges all believers to focus not upon the material riches that our world has to offer; instead, we must continue to acknowledge that God is our rock and our soul source of unconditional love. David concludes this psalm by requesting of God that He render to each man according to his work. These should be the greatest blessings that we should be seeking especially since the source would be our God.
Although this psalm provides us with a kind reminder as to how we should live our lives, I personally find it very difficult to continue to make my soul await in silence for God’s blessings. He knows and is cognizant of our family and its financial difficulties and yet, after nearly four and a half years, I still await his blessing of a new career opportunity. I am ultimately left with no alternative but to be still and know that He is and always will be my God. I can only hope to better understand in retrospect why the wait has been so long….and smile once again!!
Dear God:
Help me dear God with my family and the need for the minimal necessities. Clear my heart so that I may wholeheartedly strive to draw closer to you. I ask and pray for sensitivity, so that I may become even more sensitive to your spoken word. Continue to have mercy upon me, Lord, clearly a work in progress. Thank you, Lord; in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
