Bible in One Year Passages:
Matthew 26:47-56, Romans 11:1-24, Deuteronomy 6-8
9 You visit the earth and water it;
you greatly enrich it;
the river of God is full of water;
you provide their grain,
for so you have prepared it.
10 You water its furrows abundantly,
settling its ridges,
softening it with showers,
and blessing its growth.
11 You crown the year with your bounty;
your wagon tracks overflow with abundance.
12 The pastures of the wilderness overflow,
the hills gird themselves with joy,
13 the meadows clothe themselves with flocks,
the valleys deck themselves with grain,
they shout and sing together for joy.
The psalmist describes how God tends to the needs of the earth. He is a like a gardener, watering with great care the soil that is His creation. He gives abundantly and encourages growth and bounty. In fact, the word abundance is used multiple times and the imagery of a bountiful harvest from ideal conditions is presented throughout. At the end, the whole earth cries out in joyful praise at how much our Creator God has given to us.
We are so used to going to God in times of need. We cry out to Him when we experience sorrow and loss in our lives. Many times we forget that God has also provided us with much to be thankful for. This passage clearly illustrates that. We should focus on all aspects of God, not just as One who can provide when we are in need, but also as one who has already provided abundantly in our lives. Today, let us examine the many ways in which God blesses us in abundance and sing our praise to Him.
Father, I thank you for the many ways you have touched my life and generously provided for all my needs. May our praises ring throughout our this day for our Jehova Jireh!
