Bible in One Year Passages:
Matthew 27:32-44, Romans 14:1-12, Deuteronomy 26-27
Save me, O God. You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from you. May those who hope in you, may those who seek you. But I pray to you, O Lord, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. Answer me, O Lord, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy to me.
David is crying out for help in a time of desperation and circumstances. He is fully aware of the terrible situation he is in and confesses that "You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from you."
He confesses what he knows that God already is aware of. And yet, David does not want those who hope and seek the Lord not to be prevented from doing so because of the actions David has taken. He seeks God, he weeps and fasts. David asks for God's favor and seeks His love. To be rescued and delivered. The goodness of God's love and God's great mercy. Come near me and rescue me and redeem me.
My take away is that God calls me to be brutally honest with him in my joy and in my despair. To look inward and to confess to Him those sins I have committed and continue to commit. That even in my most desparate circumstances I cannot get taken down by what is around me but my hope and strength is in my God and Father who loves me and is merciful. In my response to God in my life, it also reminds me of the discipline of fasting and how important it is that I confess my sins, humble myself and seek His love. What I seek is that God will come near me, reveal His face to me, to be intimately in relationship with God.
Lord, thank you for your mercy, goodness and love. And redemption. Let my heart be pure and when I stumble, give me the strength to confess my sins and all the ways that I fall short. Thank you for not letting me make excuses but to give all that I have and all that I am experiencing up to you. Whether it is something I can comprehend or circumstances that are beyond my understanding but fully in your plan for my life. Thank you for the goodness of your love. Amen.
