Bible in One Year Passages:
Matthew 23:1-12, Romans 4:1-12, Numbers 13-14
Psalm 51:16 For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;
you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
This is a classic and beautiful Psalm and one that I love very much. It is so rich that it is a challenge to choose what to reflect upon in this entry. This is the Psalm that David wrote in deep sorrow before God after he was confronted by Nathan about his sin with Bethsheba. This Psalm has been one that many spiritual leaders since it was written have encouraged meditation. If we can make this Psalm our own we can see transformation. In my study I learned that this was the first Psalm where Spirit was used to talk about the Holy Spirit. I thought that was interesting.
To stay focused on having the same mind as our redeemer. (Phil 2) Having such a clear focus as knowing and doing the will of God 24/7 with the mind of Christ gives me such freedom. This way I can see all things whether they are “small or big” as an act of ministry of love. Can I plan the next ministry event with the mind of Christ? And, at the same time, can I enter my home after a long tiring day of work, with the mind of Christ to be kind, gentle and thoughtful of my wife and children? I want to have a humble heart with everyone I relate to during the day.
My humble and gentle God, thank you for sending and revealing your true nature in your son Jesus Christ. His life, words and deeds give me a crystal clear image of who you are and who I am created to be. For your act of love I am eternally grateful. Empower me and equip me to be humble like your son Jesus Christ. Amen.
