Bible in One Year Passages:
Matthew 23:25-39, Romans 5:1-11, Numbers 17-18
1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
there is none who does good.
5 There they are, in great terror,
where there is no terror!
For God scatters the bones of him who encamps against you;
you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.
6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When God restores the fortunes of his people,
let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad. (ESV)
In this Psalm, God gives a stern warning to those who refuse to acknowledge Him as the only true God, but at the same time He gives a wonderful hope and promise to those who will seek and trust in Him. God declares that those who are so arrogant to only trust in themselves are corrupt and foolish. They will be punished and destroyed eventually. On the other hand, those who seek after God and trust Him only will receive salvation and rejoice in His Kingdom.
As I reflect on this passage, I realize that I’ve been also guilty of my own arrogance and pride in many situations. When things were going well in my life, I often gave myself more credit than to God. There were many times when I trusted more in my own abilities or other people who were in a position of authority rather than trusting God as the true source of wisdom and strength. God revealed in my heart how foolish these thoughts and actions were. God should be the only one worthy of my trust.
Heavenly Father, I give you praise and glory for being my one and only true God and Savior. I’m sorry that sometimes I neglected to put my complete trust in you and trusted more in my own abilities or things I possess. Please help me to be humble before you and surrender to you completely. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
