Bible in One Year Passages:
Mark 14:32-42, Galatians 2:1-10, 2 Samuel 11-12
Psalm 109:20-21
20 May this be the reward of my accusers from the Lord,
of those who speak evil against my life!
21 But you, O God my Lord,
deal on my behalf for your name's sake;
because your steadfast love is good, deliver me!
This is one of the Psalms of Imprecation. Imprecation is when you ask God for something bad to happen to your enemies. In particular, the author is having a lot of issues with his accusers. In other words, he is accused of something, and this is eating him up. So much so that he is writing the psalm of imprecation. It is also interesting to note that the word satan literally means an accuser in Hebrew. But the author finds comfort in the Lord who will defend on his behalf, the same way Jesus would, defending for me against Satan.
I am sure all of us have been accused of something which we did not do. Just as equally, I am sure most of us have accused of someone which was not deserved, which we should repent immediately. When I am accused of something, I need to leave everything up to God and be comforted knowing that even Jesus himself was accused something in this world. But in the end, Yahweh (the word used to describe God in this passage) will deal on my behalf for his name’s sake.
Dear Yahweh Lord, thank you for being who you are. I pray that you will grant me wisdom so that I may know how to react in your name when accusations are flowing on my way. Help me to be comforted by your name and your promise only.
