Bible in One Year Passages:
Verse 72. And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, "Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times." And he broke down and wept.
Peter had spent 3 years with Jesus. He walk on water with Jesus; saw Jesus calm the storm, give sight to the blind, heal the lepers, make the lame walk, raise the dead...Jesus predicted that Peter would deny Jesus before the rooster crows twice. Peter claimed he would not deny Jesus.
It's interesting how things turned out. As always, Jesus was(is/will be) truth. Peter (human being) did not keep his word.
We saw something like this (having a great spiritual high then sinking low) happen with Peter (human) when he walked on water. Peter boldly stepped out of the boat in faith and experienced walking on water, but when he realized the storm around him, he began to sink.
It also brings to mind the story of the mighty prophet Elijah, 1 King ch. 18-19.
When the pressures of life gets turned up, we humans become stupid. We forget all about history. God does not have to perform any more miracles. We human beings need to remember them. With Peter, God gave him a 1st reminder with the 1st crowing of the rooster. This did not register with Peter. It was only after the 2nd crowing of the rooster...
WE NEED TO MAKE MEMORIALS (Joshua 4:1-7) OF GODS FAITHFULNESS IN OUR LIVES, because we are stupid and forget so easily when the heat gets turned up. Could Life Journal be the memorial?
Lord forgive me for forgetting your power and faithfulness in my life. Too often, I've let life circumstances dictate my life. I finally understand when you say that we like sheep have gone astray. Help me to remember that you are a powerful God when the pressures of life trouble me. If I should forget, send me reminders so I can remember.
