Bible in One Year Passages:
John 8:21-30, 2 Peter 1:1-15, Ezekiel 1-2
9Then Satan answered the LORD and said, "Does Job fear God for no reason? 10Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face" (Job 1:9-11).
I find it ironic that it is Satan who raises the all-important question for all God's people to think about. So, what's the question? Here it is: What causes God's people to worship God? I wish I could boldly claim that I worship God regardless of my circumstances. However, in reality, I find my worship of God fluctuating depending on my circumstances. I have to think really hard to recall a time when I was able worship God despite and regardless of my circumstances. The question Satan posed to God has confronted me with the reality of the shallowness of my faith--the so-called "circumstantial faith" which is not a faith at all.
By the grace of God, I will seek to worship God despite and regardless of my circumstances.
Lord, I praise you for who you are. Your love never changes and your grace never runs out. Unlike the unchanging character of your love, my love for you is ever changing depending upon the circumstances I face from moment to moment. Yet, Lord, I don't want to be stuck in my circumstantial faith. I want to become a man of God whose worship never ceases regardless and despite the circumstances I face in my life. So, Holy Spirit, would you teach and empower me so that I may worship God both in my "ups and downs" of life? It is in Christ Name I pray. Amen.
