Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 22:1,2 "Now the feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him to death; for they feared the people."
As the time of Passover came around the corner, the chief priests and scribes were eager to eliminate Jesus. I do not know what prompted them to contemplate on this grevious action at this particular time, but it turns out that their action was predestined. The Passover was not only to remember the Exodus, but more importantly, to symbolize Jesus' redemptive sacrifice for our sin.
The priests and scribes were preoccupied with their political motive of gaining the popularity and support of people. They also were careful in carrying out their action since many of people were followers of Jesus. In interest of increasing their gain, they plan to take out Jesus, a radical rival, in their subversive attemp. Seeking one's personal gain while neglecting the source of life is an inevitable failure.
Lord, forgive me for being so indefferent. I need your grace and mercy. Mold me and shape me, so that I can seek your righteouness rather than my own. In your name Jesus, my precious saviour, I pray.
Amen
