Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 22:31-38, Hebrews 7:11-22, Isaiah 33-34
19Hear, my son, and be wise,
and direct your heart in the way.
20Be not among drunkards
or among gluttonous eaters of meat,
21for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty,
and slumber will clothe them with rags.
23 Buy truth, and do not sell it;
buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.
In today's passage, the writer of Proverbs teaches us that wisdom directs our heart in the right path (v.19). For the writer wisely guides his son or a young man the ways of wisdom. For when our heart is in the right path, it drives us away from foolishness and behaviors of others (v.20). In fact, the very opposite of living in wisdom is the consequences in living in poverty and slumber. Thus, we must seek truth, wisdom, instruction and understanding.
I love today's passage. For it is so simple and yet so critical in living out my life in light of God's design. I realize that following my own heart is a dangerous option. For my heart can be deceived and corrupted according to how I value the things of life. But when, Godly wisdom is involved, I tend to lean my heart toward the right pathway. When my intentions are to follow the ways of wisdom, my heart is more conscious to the ways I make choices in life, in my speech, in my perception and in living out my faith in Christ.
Loving God, thank you for this truth. For I desire to follow your wisdom so that my heart my follow your heart in all things. Guide me and direct my heart in the right path today. In Jesus loving name, Amen.
