Bible in One Year Passages:
40 And when he came to the place, he said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." 41And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42saying, "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done." 43And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Fully aware that the time was near for his suffering on the cross Jesus seems to be fearful and agonized over what is to come. As God and also man he guarded himself from temptation by praying alone to the Heavenly Father to strengthen Him and to ensure that God's will be done. As Jesus earnestly prays God sends angels to give him strength to encourage Him to complete his task of dying on the cross
As I see Jesus praying so earnestly and fervently his sweat turns to blood. My prayer life is no where close to His. The intensity of His prayers is what moves me to be more fervent as well. To know that in my prayers of petition God would send angels to assist me and strengthen me is a revelation!!
Lord, break down the learned formalities of my prayers. Help me to dig deep into my soul to truly cry out to you. Thank you for giving us Jesus to show me how to pray and how you respond to my prayers. Give me the longing to spend time with you and commune with you in prayer so that I may know your heart and so that you may know mine. Amen
