Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 22:39-46, Hebrews 7:23-28, Isaiah 35-36
26My son, give me your heart,
and let your eyes observe my ways.
27For a prostitute is a deep pit;
an adulteress is a narrow well.
28 She lies in wait like a robber
and increases the traitors among mankind.
The Psalmist in verse 26th heeds the call to his son to listen to his wise and sage advice against the temptation of this world. He asks for our hearts that is that is the core of who we are and what we believe. I also read this as God calling his people about the temptation that is dangled by Satan lying in wait to pounce the spiritually vulnerable. The Psalmist describes the temptress as like a robber who can turn believers into traitors, turning their faith and trust in God.
I read this as God asking me to keep my eyes and heart on Him and to follow his ways advice and example. The world is full of temptation that is trying to unhinge my allegiance to God but He is pleading with me to focus on him. As I survey my live and recall the days when I drifted away from God, satan was always prime and ready to pull me further way. If it wasn’t for persistent voice of the Lord speaking to me, leading me back to him and giving me the power of the holy spirit to abide in his work I stiff would be adrift.
Lord, keep me in your sights and never let me drift too far. I am your child and I want to give my heart to you. I know my heart is what you desire the most and I want to place it in your loving care. I want to keep my eyes fixed on you so that the temptation of the world has no power over me. Thank you for you advise and you example on the cross that give me the power to overcome anything. Amen
