Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 23:26-31, Hebrews 10:1-18, Isaiah 47-48
11 Like a dog that returns to his vomit
is a fool who repeats his folly.
This entire passage deals with fools and how destructive they are. One part that sticks out to me is verse 11 which emphasizes the ridiculousness of a fool who does the same foolish things over and over again without fail. Many times we regret the decisions that we make, only to revisit them time and time again. The Proverbs points out that this is foolishness and likens it to a dog that returns to its own vomit. Not only is it silly, it is disgusting as well.
Let us all take stock of our actions and our thoughts. Let us consider carefully what we do everything and the reasons behind them. Are we repeating the same mistakes over and over again? Do we lash out at those around us and then become remorseful, only to do so again? Do we gossip or say hurtful things and then, realizing the damage our speech, become repentant, only to resume when the opportunity arises? Do we glory in the pleasures of the world and shun God's grace, returning to him when we've had our fill, just to start the cycle over? Let us be mindful of what we do and break the chain of foolishness.
Father, I do not wish to be a fool. Let me truly be mindful of the things I do today. Let me strive every day to make each day unique in its worship of you.
