Bible in One Year Passages:
42 - And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."
As Jesus is crucified, he is next to two other robbers who has very different attitudes and conversation with Jesus. We see that one challenges Jesus to free them while the other humbly acknowledges their sin and even rebukes the other robber.
This famous passage always reminds of how we need to remember that Jesus is the only way to eternal life. This passage is a beautiful example of how a simple faith in Jesus and relying ONLY in him is the way to heaven. We know from the context of the passage that this robber has not had a faithful, "Christian" life yet all it took was as sincerely, heartfilled acceptance of Jesus and He acknowledges back with an acceptance - "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." In essence our attempts to live a faithful life ("good deeds") should be in response to a thankful heart to Jesus' acceptance to our simple declaration that Jesus is the only way, and only through that faith can we "be with him in Paradise".
Heavenly father, I thank you for your amazing love that you gave your only Son so that by faith we can enter into Heaven. I know I am just like the robbers - unworthy and sinful - but because your Son, Jesus Christ, I can rejoice and know that I am saved. I pray that I can continue to remember this amazing gift and live daily praising your name. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
