Bible in One Year Passages:
"Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures" (v. 45)
This is one of the last encounters that the risen Lord had with His disciples. It's interesting to know that the final moments of His earthly life was spent with His beloved disciples, as opposed to the crowd. Jesus spent some intimate time with His disciples and patiently walked with them to understand the truth of what's going on. It's encouraging to know that He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures at the last hour together. They had their fellowship over the Scriptures. And finally, He opened their minds that they would really understand the truth of the gospel. That ought to be a prayer in every human heart that the Lord would open our minds to understand the truth. That's illumination, the work of the Spirit in revealing the truth to the minds of human beings.
I am really encouraged to discover that at the final hours of His earthly life, Jesus spent time with His disciples. It really shows that how his relationship to his disciples was special to him. It's all about empowering His disciples to be the "witnesses of these things" (v. 48), the message of the cross. What will stick in other peoples' minds is nothing other than the truth of God's Word. As I will spend time with friends and relatives this week, I want to be mindful of what the Lord did and will spend time sharing the message of the Cross to make a lasting impact in their lives.
Lord, I thank you for a new insight from this text today. Father, I know that it has to be you who opens the minds of people to understand the Scriptures. So, I humbly pray that you would open my mind every time I open Your Word. And whenever I open my mouth to share your Word, may you open their minds that the truth of your word would stick in their heart through the work of the Spirit. Lord, I long to know you more as I open and meditate on Your Word. In Jesus' name. Amen.
