Bible in One Year Passages:
3 And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. 4 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” (ESV)
Jesus commended the poor widow's giving rather than the rich because she gave sacrificially. The rich put money into the temple treasury out of their abundance perhaps to be outwardly pious or as a routine or out of obligation. But the poor widow who only had two small copper coins to live on, offered all of what she had, to be used for God’s service.
How do I give to God? Am I like a two year old when asked to share a big candy bar, hesitates then picks out the smallest bit to share? Or can I be mature enough, seeing the need, be able to share all of it or give larger portion of what I have? I should not make excuses that I can't give to God because I don't have enough. It was God who gave it in the first place. I believe God doesn't look at the quantity of the gift but with what attitude of the heart it is given.
My prayer is this song, “I Offer My Life.”
All that I am, all that I have
I lay them down before You, Oh Lord
All my regrets, All acclaim
The joy and the pain I’m making them Yours
And Lord I offer my life to You
Everything I’ve been through use it for Your glory
Lord I offer my days to You
Lifting my praise to You
As a pleasing sacrifice
Lord I offer You my life
Things in the past, things yet unseen
Wishes and dreams that are yet to come true
All of my hearts, all of my plans
My heart and my hands are lifted to You
And Lord I offer my life to You
Everything I’ve been through use it for Your glory
Lord I offer my days to You
Lifting my praise to You
As a pleasing sacrifice
Lord I offer You my life.
Amen.
