Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 21:29-33, Hebrews 4:12-16, Isaiah 16-18
The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord;
he turns it wherever he will.
2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,
but the Lord weighs the heart.
4 Haughty eyes and a proud heart,
the lamp of the wicked, are sin.
The "heart" is mentioned in verses 1, 2, and 4.
Man's actions demonstrate where his heart is. No wonder that the first great commandment is "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." And it is the heart that is mentioned first, prior to soul and mind.
It is the heart God looks at. I must guard it for if that is what is important to God, then certainly Satan targets the heart as well. Paul says to wear the "breastplate of righteousness." I imagine the breastplate would physically cover the area where the heart resides within the body. What is this breastplate then? I heard it is wearing the characteristics of God. I'm not certain how to do that other than to be in prayer, read Scropture, listen to the whispers of the Holy Spirit, and be held accountable with another believer.... all on a regular and frequent basis.
Dear Father in Heaven,
Please guard the hearts of your children. It can be easily swayed by the world. Remind us each day to "Put on the whole armor of God, that we may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil."
Amen.
