Bible in One Year Passages:
34 “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Jesus warns us against becoming too consumed in worldly pleasures and chasing after worldly dreams and riches which will result in destruction and condemnation. At the same time, He also encourages us that by praying at all times, we will receive strength from Him to overcome any trials or temptations that this world may bring and we will be able to stand firm with Jesus on that day when He returns.
I often find myself “weighed down” by cares of this dog-eat-dog world we live in, being so tempted to follow and do whatever it takes to succeed and enjoy the instant earthly rewards now. Therefore, today’s Word is very comforting and encouraging because it reassures me that He will supply all the strength I need to resist and not give into these worldly ways and that I can look forward to the ultimate reward and prize in Heaven when He returns. The key to this secret of receiving strength is staying alert and praying at all times. Here’s a song that reminded me of His wonderful promise.
My Redeemer Lives
Written by John Willison
1. For I know my Redeemer lives
And in the end He will stand on the earth
For I know my Redeemer lives
And in the end He will reign on the earth
Though my flesh it be destroyed
Yet with my eyes I will see God
For I know that my Redeemer lives
And I will stand with him on that day
For I know that my Redeemer lives
And I will stand with him on that day
2. Oh my heart it yearns within me
For the day when Jesus returns
Oh my heart it yearns within me
For the day when Jesus shall reign
Though my flesh it be destroyed
Yet with my eyes I will see God
For I know that my Redeemer lives
And I will stand with him on that day
For I know that my Redeemer lives
And I will stand with him on that day
Heavenly Father, thank you so much for your assurance of salvation and presence in my life. Please allow me the courage and strength to share your wonderful promise with those around me who do not know you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
