Bible in One Year Passages:
Luke 21:34-38, Hebrews 5:1-10, Isaiah 19-21
30 No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the LORD.
31 The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the LORD. (ESV)
The last two verses in today’s passage provide a serious warning and reminder that there will be no success against God or without God. In these verses, King Solomon himself who was considered the most wise and powerful in his time admits that he wouldn’t be able to challenge against God. In Isaiah 55:9, God reminds us, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” King Solomon also confesses that he will not win the battle without acknowledging that God is the one who gives ultimate victory.
No matter how well I think I’m prepared to fight my daily battles, without acknowledging that God is my Lord and He is the one that directs my path, I would not be successful nor experience His blessings in my life. Applying this truth is not as difficult to practice when I’m faced with making difficult decisions or when I’m completely desperate and helpless. However, I need to remember to practice this truth even when I feel like I can handle it on my own without God’s help or when the task or the decision seems so obvious and trivial.
Heavenly Father, thank you for convicting my heart today with your truth. I have often trusted my own abilities and plans more than trusting you. May I start acknowledging your presence and leading in my decisions more even when they seem unimportant and insignificant so that I can experience your peace and joy knowing that you have already won the battle for me and that the outcome of my decisions are safe in your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
